NAIA picks Sioux Falls to host national men’s basketball tournament

Area volleyball roundup: Marion claims title at own invite

MARION -- The Marion volleyball team dropped the first set but came back to defeat Andes Central 2-1 to win the Marion Invitational Saturday in Marion.

No stats of the tournament were reported despite attempts to reach coaches.

Set scores of the championship game were 18-25, 25-20, 25-18. All matches were a best of three sets.

FORESTBURG -- The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket volleyball team lost 3-2 in the semifinal match of the 281 Conference Tournament to Highmore-Harrold. Set scores were 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-4.

Marissa Weber recorded 12 kills and five aces in the loss. Candance Page-Marten had 27 assists and nine digs.

Despite the loss, the Blackhawks rebounded to defeat Wolsey-Wessington in four sets for a third-place finish.

Set scores were 25-16, 20-25, 25-5, 25-17.

Rachel Selland led the Blackhawks with 16 kills and four aces. Morgan Larson and Weber had 12 kills apiece. Page-Marten recorded 27 assists and 18 digs.

White Lake 3, Lyman 1

WHITE LAKE -- Kim Munsen recorded 48 set assists to lead White Lake to a 3-1 win over Lyman Saturday.

Set scores were 22-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-21.

White Lake's Maria Nightingale had 20 kills and eight digs and Clara Moeller had 12 kills.

Anna Flitner had 15 kills and eight blocks. Jessica Welter recorded 11 kills and Bailey Almond tallied 20 digs and 25 assists.

White Lake (13-6) also won the JV match and hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton Tuesday, While Lyman (7-8) plays Kimball today.

Wagner 3, Harrisburg 1

HARRISBURG -- The Wagner volleyball team defeated Harrisburg 3-1 Saturday in Harrisburg. Set scores were 22-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-14.

Wagner's Nicole Weber had 11 kills and Kim Koupal recorde nine kills. Jessa Doom tallied 30 assists and eight kills. Sydney added 25 digs.

Wessington Springs 3, Sunshine Bible Academy 1

Wessington Springs 3, Hitchcock-Tulare 1

TULARE -- Wessington Springs won a pair of matches in the 281 Conference Tournament Saturday, giving it a fifth-place finish.

In the first match against Sunshine Bible Academy, Wessington Springs won 18-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-15.

Wessington Springs's Cassidy Musick had 10 aces and Sheyanne Brodkorb had 10 kills. Lexi Olinger tallied 34 assists and Traci Orth had nine blocks in the win.

The Spartans defeated Hitchcock-Tulare 3-1 for fifth place. Set scores were 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20.

Musick had five aces in the win. Orth and Brodkorb each had 11 kills and Orth had 44 digs. Haley Reider recorded 15 assists. Shyanne Kopfmann tallied eight blocks.

The Spartans are 6-11 and play at Ethan Tuesday.
