Area volleyball roundup: Wagner tops Winner in 3 sets

WAGNER -- Wagner defeated Winner in straight sets in high school volleyball action Thursday night in Wagner.

Set scores were 25-11, 25-20, 25-15.

Wagner's Jessa Doom had two aces and 33 assists. Gina Soukup had 10 kills. Kim Koupal and Nicole Weber recorded nine kills apiece. Sydney Breen had 19 digs and Delaynie Dickerson tallied 17 digs.

Winner's Cassidy Hanson had 12 kills and two blocks. Lindsey Calhoon recorded 10 digs. Tessa Lester had nine digs. Sarah Husher had seven assists and Kristin Hennebold had five assists.

Wagner (16-1) also won the JV match and plays at Harrisburg Saturday, while Winner (11-6) plays Gregory Tuesday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Iroquois 0

FORESTBURG -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket defeated Iroquois in straight sets in the first round of the 281 Conference Tournament Thursday. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18, 25-12.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket's Morgan Larson had four aces and 14 digs. Rachel Selland had three aces and four kills. Candace Page-Marten recorded four assists and 14 digs. Rachelle Moore had 16 digs and Morgan Selland tallied seven kills and two blocks.

Iroquois' Kelsey Blue had three aces, two kills and 12 assists. Britney Moeller had 10 kills and three blocks. Amber Jacobs had five kills and 13 digs and Alex Hanson recorded eight digs.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (12-3) takes on Highmore-Harrold, which beat Hitchcock-Tulare in straight sets Thursday, in the second round Saturday in Forestburg.

Iroquois (1-18) plays Hitchcock-Tulare Saturday.

Tri-Valley 3, McCook Central/Montrose 0

COLTON -- The Tri-Valley volleyball team beat McCook Central/Montrose 3-0 Thursday. Set scores were 25-23, 25-8, 25-13.

Tri-Valley's Allison Cross had 10 kills, Olivia Minnaert had 14 assists and two aces and Cally Neises added three blocks.

MCM's Laura Klaudt had 15 digs, seven assists and one block. C.J. Ristesund recorded seven kills and nine digs. Dana Kirby added 10 assists.

MCM (3-12) plays Baltic Monday, while Tri-Valley (13-3) hosts Garretson Monday.

Parker 3, Garretson 0

PARKER -- The Parker volleyball team has yet to lose a match this season as it defeated Garretson in three sets Thursday in Parker.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-4, 25-7.

Parker's Allison Sanner had 14 kills and one ace. Amber Dysthe recorded 22 assists, 12 digs, two kills and four aces. Micalanne Hanten added eight kills, seven digs and six aces.

Garretson's Jennie Hegge had nine digs and Chayce Brinkman recorded eight assists and six digs.

Parker (21-0) plays Beresford Saturday, while Garretson (2-13) plays Tri-Valley Monday in Colton.

Hanson 3, Kimball 0

KIMBALL -- Hanson traveled to Kimball and came away with a straight-sets victory in high school volleyball action Thursday. Set scores were 25-19, 26-24, 25-20.

Kynedi Cheeseman had nine kills, three blocks and five digs for the Beavers. Kendra Cheeseman had 12 assists and three aces in the win, while Erika Nelson finished with five kills and three blocks.

Kimball, which won the JV game 2-1, got 20 assists and 10 digs from Mary Kroupa. Lindsay Olson had a team-high nine kills, while Haley Pazour added eight. Emily Sinclair recorded 20 digs and two aces and Cadee Nikolaus finished with two aces.

Hanson improved to 13-5 and takes on Viborg-Hurley Monday in Viborg. Kimball (3-12) takes on Lyman Monday in Kimball.

Bon Homme 3, Menno 0

MENNO -- Vanessa Navratil recorded six service aces to help lead Bon Homme to a 25-13, 25-21, 25-19 win over Menno in high school volleyball action Thursday in Menno.

The win got the Cavaliers back to .500 on the season, improving their record to 9-9. Alie Adams had 21 assists and three aces in the victory, while Emily Pechous had 10 digs, Jody Kriz had 15 digs and Mariah Kostal had a match-high eight kills.

Menno's Brittany Haberman had a team-high four kills, while Shelby Huber recorded 10 digs.

Menno dropped to 1-12 and returns to action in the Marion Invitational Saturday in Marion. Bon Homme takes on Dakota Christian Thursday in New Holland.

Dakota Christian 3, Marty 0

NEW HOLLAND -- Brooklyn VanderPol recorded nine kills to help lead Dakota Christian over Marty Indian in straight sets during high school volleyball action Thursday in New Holland.

Set scores were 25-10, 25-23, 25-8.

Amber Baan Hofman recorded 8 aces in the win, while Germaine Big Crow had 12 assists, three digs and two aces.

Dakota Christian (6-7) travels to play in the Marion Invitational Saturday in Marion.

Parkston 3, Scotland 0

SCOTLAND -- Laura Weiss had eight kills to lead the Parkston Trojans over the Scotland Highlanders Thursday 25-20, 27-25, 25-14 in Scotland.

Mersadie Dvorak and Hanna Heisinger each had five kills for Parkston. MacKenzie Lee had nine digs. Whitney Weber and Krista Radke each had seven digs. Radke and Heisinger each served two aces. Radke tallied 10 set assists and Weber added nine.

Parkston is 8-8 this season and hosts West Central Monday.

Carley Skorepa led Scotland in kills with seven. Kennidy Asche added five kills. Christy Mogck recorded a team-high 34 digs while Kayla Rokusek recorded 26. Skorepa and Asche each added 16 digs. Sam Geiman served two aces for the Highlanders and also had two blocks.

Scotland's record is 6-6 and the Highlanders will host West Central Tuesday.

Chamberlain 3, Gregory 0

GREGORY -- Chamberlain cruised past Gregory in three sets in high school volleyball Thursday. Set scores were 25-18, 25-12, 25-18.

Jesse Brownell had 22 digs for the Cubs. Jamie Knippling had six blocks. Laura Pazour had eight kills.

Cheyenne Salonen had seven kills, one block, and three aces for the Gorillas. Sierra Thomas had 14 assists and 10 digs.

Chamberlain (12-3) hosts Crow Creek Monday. Gregory (9-6) hosts Winner Tuesday.

Ethan 3, Freeman 2

FREEMAN -- Ethan won the first two sets to Freeman, but had to battle its way to win in five sets Thursday. Set scores were 25-18, 25-23, 16-25, 22-25, 17-15.

Whitney Endres led the Rustlers in digs with 15. Morgan Tuttle was the Rustler's kill leader with seven. Darbi Gustafson added five kills. Holley Lindeman had 21 set assists and two service aces. Ethan is 12-7 this season and hosts Wessington Springs Tuesday.

Dina Soulek was the kill leader for Freeman with 25. Soulek also led in digs with 17. Shelby Bauer and Grace Gering each added 15 digs. Nicole Hinckley recorded eight blocks. Gering had 41 set assists and served four aces. Freeman is 5-7 and hosts Dell Rapids St. Mary Monday.

Corsica/Stickney 3,

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 2

CORSICA -- Jackie Dethlefsen served six aces in Corsica/Stickney's win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Thursday in Corsica. Set scores were 12-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 16-14.

Dethlefsen and Micayla Bamberg each had 11 kills and two blocks. Missy Johnson recorded 46 digs and Kara Prien added 21. Brianna Kuyper tallied 40 set assists.

Rachel Mora served four aces for Tripp-Delmont/Armour and Morgan Ziegler served three aces. LaNae Fuerst was the Nighthawks' kill leader with five. Kelli Batterman, Becca Brown and Hannah Just each added four kills. Batterman was the team's dig leader with 29. Fuerst added 27 digs and Rachel Mora added 17. Jessica Sandau had seven set assists and Ziegler had five.

Corsica/Stickney is 5-10 this season and hosts Dakota Christian Monday in Stickney. Tripp-Delmont/Armour plays at Wagner Monday.

Howard 3, Flandreau 1

FLANDREAU -- Jenna Clark led the Tigers in both digs and kills in Howard's win over Flandreau Thursday. Set scores were 10-25, 25-23, 29-27, 25-20.

Clark recorded 15 kills and 27 digs. Shelby Thompson served seven aces for Howard. Sydney Thompson had 29 set assists.

Flandreau's kill leader was Makayla Dietrich with 12. Kendra Duncan led the Flyers in digs with 11. Brice Rose served four aces.

Howard plays McCook Central/Montrose Tuesday in Salem. Flandreau hosts Colman-Egan Tuesday.

Platte-Geddes 3, Lyman 0

PRESHO -- Platte-Geddes defeated Lyman in straight sets in a high school volleyball match Thursday. Set scores were 25-11, 25-17, 25-18.

No stats were available despite attempts to reach coaches.

Platte-Geddes plays at Marion Saturday. Lyman (7-7) plays at Kimball Monday.

South Central 3,

West Boyd, Neb. 2

BUTTE, Neb. -- South Central defeated West Boyd, Neb. in a tight five-set match Thursday.

Set scores were 24-26, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 19-17.
