One dead, several injured following I-90 crash in Mitchell

Area volleyball roundup: Kimball takes down Mitchell Christian in 3 sets

The volleyball teams from Kimball and Mitchell Christian battled all night Tuesday as Kimball triumphed in straight sets in Mitchell. Set scores were 31-29, 28-26, 25-16.

Haley Pazour finished with 11 kills and 10 digs for the Kiotes, while Mary Kroupa recorded 16 assists and 11 digs and Emily Sinclair had a team-high 12 digs. Ariel Gould tallied five serves aces.

Mitchell Christian's Emily Schrag finished the night with 10 assists, nine digs and three blocks. Ellie Bleeker had nine digs and three aces, Emily Reynen had 11 digs and Brittany Zoss recorded five aces and nine digs.

Kimball improved to 3-11 on the season and takes on Hanson Thursday in Kimball. Mitchell Christian (2-11) faces Andes Central Thursday in Mitchell.

White Lake 3, Wolsey-Wessington 0

WHITE LAKE -- White Lake cruised to a 3-0 win over Wolsey-Wessington in high school volleyball action Tuesday in White Lake.

Set scores were 25-9, 25-9, 25-11.

Maria Nightingale finished with 16 kills in the win, while Kim Munsen had 26 assists and Erin Beckman recorded seven aces.

White Lake improved to 12-6 with the victory and takes on Lyman Saturday in White Lake. Wolsey-Wessington, which won the JV match, dropped to 8-6 and takes on Wessington Springs on Thursday.

Parkston 3, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0

TRIPP -- Laura Weiss recorded 12 kills, seven blocks, five digs and two aces to help Parkston to a straight-set win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour in high school volleyball action Tuesday in Tripp.

Set scores were 30-28, 25-19, 25-13.

Whitney Weber led Parkston in assists and digs with 13 and 11, respectively. MacKenzie Lee also had 11 digs in the win and Krista Radke had 12 assists and 10 digs.

For TDA, Hannah Just had 14 digs, LaNae Fuerst had 13 digs, Kelli Batterman had 13 digs and two aces, Jessica Sandau had 12 digs and Becca Brown finished with six kills.

Parkston, which won 2-1 in the JV match, improved to 7-8 and takes on Scotland Thursday in Scotland. TDA dropped to 5-8 and takes on Corsica/Stickney Thursday in Corsica.

Highmore-Harrold 3,

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 1

HIGHMORE -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket took the first set, but fell in four to Highmore-Harrold Tuesday in Highmore. Set scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-20.

Candace Page-Marten had 20 assists and 26 digs in the loss, Marissa Weber had 12 kills and Rachelle Moore led the team with 32 digs.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket dropped to 11-3 on the season.

Platte-Geddes 3, Dakota Christian 0

NEW HOLLAND -- Josie DeGroot had 17 kills and five blocks to help Platte-Geddes defeat Dakota Christian 3-0 Tuesday in high school volleyball action in New Holland.Set scores were 25-15, 25-22, 25-10.

Kelli Sprik finished with 29 assists and eight digs in the win, while Mackenzie Millar finished with a match-high 16 digs.

Andes Central 3, Colome 0

LAKE ANDES -- Andes Central took down Colome 3-0 in high school volleyball action Tuesday in Lake Andes.

Set scores were 25-16, 28-26, 25-11.

Krista Winckler had 10 kills and 12 digs for Andes Central. Kellie Winckler finished with nine kills and nine digs. Sierra Svatos had a match-high 21 assists.

Becca Moorhead led Colome with five kills, seven assists and eight digs. Rachel Shippy also had eight digs.

Colome returns to action Tuesday to play in a quadrangular in Stuart, Neb., while Andes Central takes on Mitchell Christian Thursday in Mitchell. Andes Central also won the JV match.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 3,

Wessington Springs 1

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- The Mount Vernon/Plankinton volleyball team dropped the first set but came back to defeat Wessington Springs 3-1 Tuesday night. Set scores were 15-25, 25-21, 25-17, 26-24.

MVP's Jazmin Waite and Haley Haak had three aces apiece. Waite had six kills. Mikayla Weiss had 19 assists. Megan Bultsma recorded four blocks. Kallyn Prangley had 21 digs.

Wessington Springs' Haley Reider had three aces and 13 assists. Cassidy Musick had three aces. Sheyanne Brodkorb had 10 kills and Traci Orth had four blocks. Shyanne Kopfmann had 28 digs.

MVP (8-5) plays at a tournament in Marion Saturday, Wessington Springs dropped to 4-11 overall and travels to James Valley Christian for the 281 Conference Tournament Thursday.

Chamberlain 3, Miller 1

MILLER -- The Chamberlain Cubs defeated Miller 3-1 in high school volleyball action Tuesday. Set scores were 26-28, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17.

Chamberlain's Jaymee Knippling had 10 kills and four blocks. Laura Pazour recorded 10 kills and Kennedy Wagner had 13 assists and 12 digs. Abbey Handel added 14 digs and nine assists for the Cubs.

Miller's Kristen Peterka had 13 kills, 30 digs and three aces. Denae Schlechter had 24 assists and three aces.

Chamberlain (11-3) travels to play Gregory Thursday, while Miller (8-7) plays in Redfield Saturday.

Scotland 3, Avon 1

SCOTLAND -- The Scotland volleyball team beat Avon 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-12 Tuesday night.

Scotland's Carley Skorepa had 16 kills, two blocks and three aces. Amber Alvey led all players with 35 assists and added 15 digs and two aces. Christy Mogck tallied 33 digs and two aces.

Avon's Ariana Oorlog had eight kills, two digs and three aces. Emily Mudder had eight digs, three kills and two aces and Amanda Reiff had 10 digs.

Scotland (6-5) hosts Parkson Thursday, while Avon plays in a tournament in Marion Saturday.

Winner 3, Todd County 0

WINNER -- The Winner volleyball team swept Todd County 25-11, 25-8, 25-18 Tuesday.

Winner's Cassidy Hanson had 12 kills, five digs and four aces. Sara Husher had 15 assists, three digs, one block and two kills. Tawny Sherman added eight kills and two blocks.

Todd County's Bre Bad Milk had 14 assists and Jordyn Hespe recorded four kills, three blocks and two aces.

Winner (11-5) also won the JV match and plays Wagner Thursday in Wagner, while Todd County (1-9) plays in Rapid City Friday.

Wagner 3, Vermillion 0

VERMILLION -- Wagner defeated Vermillion in straight sets Tuesday. Set scores were 25-17, 25-20, 25-14.

Wagner's Nicole Weber had nine kills. Alex Dvorak and Gina Soukup recorded seven kills. Dvorak added four blocks and Sydney Breen recorded 17 digs. Kayle Deurmier added 25 assists for the Red Raiders.

No stats were available for Vermillion.

Wagner (15-1) hosts Winner Thursday, while Vermillion (3-8) hosts West Central Thursday.

Dell Rapids 3,

McCook Central/Montrose 1

DELL RAPIDS --Dell Rapids dropped the first set but came back to beat McCook Central/Montrose 3-1 Tuesday. Set scores were 11-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.

MCM's Anna Olinger had 10 kills, six digs, two aces and one block. Jean Skoglund had eight kills, eight digs, two aces and one block. Stefani Matthies recorded seven kills, three aces and one block. Dana Kirby had 14 digs, three aces and 13 assists.

No stats were available for Dell Rapids.

McCook Central/Montrose (3-11) plays Tri-Valley Thursday, while Dell Rapids plays Lennox Thursday.

White River 3, Gregory 0

DELL RAPIDS -- The White River volleyball team swept Gregory 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 Tuesday.

Gregory's Cheyenne Salonen had 18 kills. Desiree Stephen recorded 14 digs. Sierra Thomas had 23 assists and 13 digs.

No stats were available for White River.

Gregory (9-5) hosts Chamberlain Thursday, while White River plays in a tournament in Rapid City Friday.

Dakota Valley 3, Bon Homme 0

NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Dakota Valley swept Bon Homme 3-0 in high school volleyball action Tuesday. Set scores were 25-9, 25-6, 25-4.

No stats were available despite attempts to reach coaches.

Bon Homme (8-9) plays Menno Thursday, while Dakota Valley (14-2) plays Homer, Neb., Tuesday.
