Rustlers win 5-set thriller over Titans

ETHAN -- Ethan's Darbi Gustafson had 15 kills and two blocks and Anna Mueller had 11 kills and six blocks in a five-set win over Mount Vernon/Plankinton Tuesday night in a high school volleyball match.

Set scores were 26-28, 25-14, 21-25, 29-27, 15-6.

Morgan Tuttle added eight kills and two blocks for the Rustlers, who picked up their fourth win of the year. Whitney Endres recorded 11 digs and two aces and Tori Pollreisz finished with six digs and Holley Lindeman added 34 assists two blocks.

MV/P was led by Dani Stolz, who had 11 kills and five blocks. The Titans, who won the JV match, also got eight kills from Jordan Achterberg. Mikayla Weiss finished with 10 kills and 11 assists. Sachiko Risseeuw had 16 digs, Halley Haak recorded 11 digs and Kallyn Prangley finished with six digs and seven assists. Hannah Parsons added two aces.

Ethan (4-3) plays Saturday at the Custer Battlefield Highway tournament in Kimball, while MV/P (1-2) plays Hanson Thursday in Alexandria.

Mitchell Christian 3, Wessington Springs 2

After winning the first two sets, the Mitchell Christian volleyball team needed all five sets to defeat Wessington Springs Tuesday night in the gymnasium at Mitchell Christian School in Mitchell.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-13, 13-25, 17-25, 15-7.

Brittany Zoss came up big defensively for Mitchell Christian, finishing with 18 blocks. Ellie Bleeker led the team in kills with eight, while also finishing with eight digs.

Emily Schrag had eight assists and eight digs, while Emily Reynen also had eight digs in the win.

For Wessington Springs, Haley Reider had a match-high 23 assists and Cassidy Musick finished with 26 digs. Traci Orth and Musick each finished with nine kills.

Mitchell Christian improved to 2-1 on the season and returns to action on the road against Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Thursday in Forestburg, while Wessington Springs (1-2) takes on White Lake Thursday in White Lake.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Menno 1

EMERY -- Bridgewater-Emery took Sets 1, 2 and 4 in in a 3-1 in over Menno Tuesday night. Set scores were 25-12, 25-14, 18-25, 25-14.

The Huskies were led by Mackenzie Schultz's 32 assists, seven digs, four aces and two kills. Justine Dye finished with 13 kills, two blocks, six digs and three aces and Aly Hanssen recorded seven kills, four digs and six aces. Tiana Kayser had 10 kills, Chesney Arend had nine digs and Brenda Weber had six digs and five aces.

Menno's Courtney Schaeffer had five kills, four blocks, three assists and five digs, Madison Huber had six assists and five digs and Shelby Huber had five kills, two blocks and 13 digs. Ashton Diede had nine digs and three aces.

Bridgewater-Emery, which won the JV match, is 2-1 and 1-0 in the Cornbelt Conference, while Menno is 1-3 and 0-1 in the Cornbelt. The Huskies host Irene-Wakonda Thursday in Bridgewater and Menno hosts Howard Monday in its next action.

Chamberlain 3, South Central 2

BURKE -- Chamberlain knocked off South Central 3-2 Tuesday night, and the Cubs were led offensively by Laura Pazour's 15 kills.

Set scores were 25-16, 21-25, 14-25, 25-14, 15-9.

She also had seven blocks, Jaymee Knippling had six aces and Alex Pederson finished with 16 digs. Kennedy Wagner added 16 assists.

South Central was led by Ashley Green, who had 19 service points, 12 kills, two blocks and 13 digs. Courtney Dummer had 10 digs.

Chamberlain (2-2) won the JV match and plays Todd County Tuesday, while South Central (3-3) plays Thursday on the road against O'Neill, Neb.

Avon 3, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 2

AVON -- Ariana Oorlog led Avon with 11 kills, 13 digs and nine assists as Avon defeated Tripp-Delmont/Armour in five sets Tuesday in Avon.

Set scores were 18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 15-4.

Alyson Roth had nine kills and seven assists for Avon in the win.

Jessica Sandau led TDA with nine assists, while Kelli Batterman had seven kills and Hannah Just finished with six kills.

Avon improved to 1-3 and takes on Centerville Thursday in Centerville. TDA faces Kimball Thursday in Kimball.

Avon also won the JV match.

Lyman 3, Colome 0

PRESHO -- Lyman took down Colome in straight sets in high school volleyball action Tuesday in Presho. Set scores were 25-20, 25-20, 25-21.

Anna Flitner led the charge for Lyman, finishing with 16 kills and 12 digs. Bailey Almond had 20 assists to go along with five aces and Chesney Garnos had 15 digs in the match.

No stats were reported for Colome.

Lyman (3-3) takes on Phillip and Stanley County Thursday in Presho. Colome returns to action Thursday when it hosts Jones County.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, White Lake 1

WHITE LAKE -- Rachelle Moore had 31 digs in Sanborn Central/Woonsocket's 3-1 victory over White Lake.

The set scores were 20-25, 25-10, 25-22, 25-21.

White Lake's Jazmyn Hinker had nine kills; Clara Moeller tallied five kills

Hailey Mohnen had nine digs, Kim Munsen had 19 assists.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket's Marissa Weber had 10 kills and Morgan Larson had nine kills.

White Lake (2-4) hosts Wessington Springs Thursday, while Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (3-0) hosts Mitchell Christian Thursday in Forestburg.

Viborg/Hurley 3, Dakota Christian 0

NEW HOLLAND -- Katelyn Graber led Viborg Hurley's volleyball team with 14 kills in a 3-0 win over Dakota Christian.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.

VH's Megan Knock had two kills, 10 assists and two aces, while Leacadia Christensen recorded 12 assists, five digs and three aces.

No stats for Dakota Christian were available.

Dakota Christian (3-1) hosts Gregory Tuesday, while Viborg/Hurley (5-1) plays Wynot, Neb. Thursday.

Gregory 3, Bennett County 0

WINNER -- Cheyenne Salonen led the Gregory volleyball team with 11 kills to defeat Bennett County 3-0 Tuesday.

Set scores were 27-25, 25-14, 25-11.

Gregory's Courtney Opbroek had 10 kills, 15 digs and four aces, and Sierra Thomas recorded 29 assists and four aces.

Bennett County's Taylor Kratovil had seven kills and three blocks, and Tania Risse tallied five kills, 16 digs and four aces.

Gregory (7-0) hosts Wagner Thursday, while Bennett County (0-4) hosts White River Thursday.

Winner 3, Bennett County 0

WINNER -- The Winner volleyball team defeated Bennett County 25-17, 25-8, 25-15 Tuesday.

Winner's Cassidy Hanson led all players with 13 kills, 10 digs and one ace. Lindsey Calhoon had six kills, 16 digs and one ace.

Sarah Husher recorded 13 assists, four kills, eight digs and one ace.

Bennett County's Taylor Kratovil tallied four kills and two blocks, and Tania Risse had 12 digs and four aces.

Winner (4-1) plays in the Clark tournament Saturday.

Hanson 3, Howard 0

HOWARD -- The Hanson volleyball team defeated Howard 25-16, 25-17, 25-22.

Hanson's Kendra Cheeseman had 14 assists and five kills, while Kynedi Cheeseman recorded nine kills and two blocks.

Abby Kayser tallied 18 digs and five aces.

Howard's Kelsey Dawson had nine kills and two aces, while Jenna Clark had 16 digs and two blocks

Hanson (4-2) hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton Thursday, while Howard plays at the Big East Conference tournament Thursday.

Vermillion 3, Bon Homme 1

TYNDALL -- The Vermillion volleyball team came back to beat Bon Homme 3-1 Tuesday.

Set scores were 17-25, 29-27, 25-20, 25-23.

Bon Homme's Caitlin McLouth had nine kills and one block, while Jody Kriz recorded 21 digs. Alie Adams tallied 27 assists.

Vermillion's Katie Herrera recorded nine kills, four blocks and five aces, and Mariah Larson had 29 assists.

Bon Homme (4-3) plays Platte-Geddes Thursday in Platte, while Vermillion (3-1) hosts Tri Valley Thursday.

Marion 3, Canistota 0

MARION -- Erica Schoenwald led the Marion volleyball team with 10 kills, two blocks and one ace to a 3-0 win over Canistota. Set scores were 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.

Marion's Kartherin Luke recorded 17 digs, 16 assists and three aces, while Ashley Rosenwald-Muller tallied 10 digs and eight kills.

Canistota's Jenny Hofer had five kills and eight blocks, and Kelsie Rotert had 14 digs. Chloe Nielsen recorded nine assists and six blocks

Canistota (1-3) plays Colman-Egan Tuesday, while Marion (5-1) plays Dell Rapids St. Mary Monday.

Marion also won the JV game 25-23, 25-19.

Scotland 3, Centerville 2

SCOTLAND -- The Scotland volleyball team edged Centerville in a five-set match Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 16-25, 17-15.

Carley Skorepa led all players with 14 kills, 18 digs, three blocks and four aces. Kennidy Asche recorded 21 digs, 13 kills, three blocks and eight aces.

Centerville's Kieran O'Malley had 12 kills, seven digs and one ace, and Brittany Austin tallied 10 assists, three digs and three aces.

Scotland (3-0) hosts Andes Central Tuesday, while Centerville hosts Avon Thursday.

Scotland 3, Gayville-Volin 0

SCOTLAND -- Amber Alvey led the Scotland volleyball team with 19 assists to a 3-0 victory over Gayville-Volin Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-13, 25-18.

Scotland's Carley Skorepa had eight kills, 13 digs, five blocks and one ace. Kennidy Asche tallied 13 digs, six kills, two blocks and one ace.

Sam Geiman recorded 13 digs, four kills and two aces.

Gayville-Volin's Kelia Barta led all players with 12 kills and seven digs, while Rachel Haas had 18 digs and three kills.

Wolsey-Wessington 3, Corsica/Stickney 1

WOLSEY -- The Wolsey-Wessington volleyball team defeated Corsica/Stickney 3-1 Tuesday night.

Set scores 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.

Jackie Dethlefsen had eight aces, seven kills and three blocks, and Hope Menning recorded eight kills, 13 digs and two aces.

Brianna Kuyper had 20 assists and six digs, while Missy Johnson recorded 25 digs.

No stats were available for Wolsey Wessington.

Corsica/Stickney (0-3) hosts Andes Central Thursday, while Wolsey-Wessington (2-2) plays Hitchcock-Tulare Thursday.

Sioux Valley 3, McCook Central/Montrose 1

VOLGA -- The Sioux Valley volleyball team defeated McCook Central Montrose 3-1 Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-11, 24-26, 25-13, 25-11.

MCM's C.J. Ristesund had four kills, three digs and two blocks. Jean Skoglund recorded seven kills, 14 digs and two aces.

Brianna Painter tallied 15 digs, while Laura Klaudt had 12 assists.

MCM (1-6) plays in a tournament Thursday, while Sioux Valley (3-1) plays Garretson Thursday in Howard.

Andes Central 3, Parkston 0

PARKSTON -- The Andes Central volleyball team defeated Parkston 3-0 Tuesday. Set scores were 25-17, 25-14, 25-10.

Parkston (2-5) hosts Corsica/Stickney Tuesday, while Andes Central plays Scotland Monday.

Dell Rapids St. Mary 3, Freeman Academy 1

DELL RAPIDS -- Dell Rapids St. Mary defeated Freeman Academy 3-1 Tuesday night in Dell Rapids.
