Fort Thompson man gets prison for killing bald eagle, snowy owl
FORT THOMPSON -- A Fort Thompson man was sentenced Nov. 20 to 12 months and one day in prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm and to nine months for killing a bald eagle.
Richard Coleman, 25, will serve the two prison terms concurrently. He was also ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution for killing the bald eagle and another $1,750 for killing a snowy owl.
The incident occurred sometime between Dec. 1, 2011, and Jan. 10. Coleman pleaded guilty to the charges on Aug. 28.
Coleman was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
