OUR VIEW: Hisses and cheers
CHEERS to the new Corn Palace murals going up alongside the walls of the attraction, a vibrant display of color we haven't seen since they were last replaced in 2015.
Visitors to Mitchell will be in for a treat next year when they see the murals, and we hope the city learned its lesson to replace the signature feature of the town's most prominent attraction each and every year.
With new murals and a brand new plaza on what used to be a portion of Sixth Avenue, we're excited to see whether Corn Palace attendance spikes in 2018.
HISSES to the news Sweet Fix Candy & Pop Shop will soon close its doors.
Mitchell is lucky to have a multitude of unique stores, but it will be sad to see the candy shop go, particularly when it's a locally-owned small business.
While the news is sad in the short term, we're hoping to see the shopping center north of Menards revitalized with a new business soon.
CHEERS to Mitchell's own Seth Paulson, whose accurate kicking lifted Dakota Wesleyan University over Hastings College last week.
The Daily Republic caught up with Paulson a few days later, and the former soccer player expressed excitement about performing in a game-winning situation.
It's great to see former Mitchell High School students take their talents to DWU, and it's even better when they can put their ability to the test on the big stage.
CHEERS to the scrappy Minnesota Twins for clinching a postseason spot after a brutal 2016 campaign.
When they play the New York Yankees in a one-game playoff match this week, we'll either be left saying, "Well, it was a good run," or, "Go, Twins, go!"
Either way, there's no denying it was a fun season. Question is, will it continue?
