LeRoy DeWaard, age 79, of Forestburg, SD (formerly of Harrison, SD) died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket, SD. Memorials services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Harrison Community Church in Harrison, SD, with burial at the Harrison Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Harrison Community Church.
LeRoy DeWaard, son of Charles and Lena DeWaard was born July 27, 1939. He lived in the Stickney area from 1939 to 1959, Harrison from 1959 to 1974, Madison from 1974 to 1985, Omaha, NE from 1985 to 1994, Mitchell, SD from 1994 to 1996 and finally in Forestburg from 1996 to 2018.
LeRoy was employed as a welder, machinist, traveling salesman and counter sales. He worked for Hubers Machine Shop which he later owned and operated, Baum Iron, Precison Industries and Mitchell Iron. He retired in 2008 after 50 years of working.
LeRoy was united in marriage with Karen Mogck on December 6, 1995 in Guntersville, AL.
He enjoyed woodworking, metal working, yard work, fixing things and spending time with his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Karen DeWaard, Forestburg, SD; his children, Paul DeWaard, Atlanta, GA, Pam (Todd) Harris, Overgaard, AZ, Doug (Angel) DeWaard, Mitchell, SD; two step sons, Keith (DeLinda) Cain and Kevin Cain; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark DeWaard; his parents; a step grandson, Cory; four brothers, John, Leonard, Randy and Charles "Jun" DeWaard; and a sister, Ann Kok.
