Federal jury finds Sisseton man, 42, guilty of sexually abusing 14-year-old
ABERDEEN, S.D. -- A 42-year-old northeast South Dakota man, who also has been living in Texas, was found guilty by a federal jury in Aberdeen last week of sexually abusing a 14-year-old victim.
Ira Alan Arias, who address is listed as Sisseton and also Fort Worth, Texas, was found guilty of three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years or up to life in prison and could also be put on probation for life.
The jury convicted Arias of forcefully engaging in three sexual acts with the victim, who was 14 years old at the time of the sexual abuse. The sexual abuse occurred in a hotel room in Codington County, south of Sisseton.
The case was investigated by the FBI.
A presentence investigation was ordered and Arias will be sentenced on July 9. Arias was detained pending and during trial, and he remains in federal custody.
