Rosebud man arrested for DUI, drug possession in Winner
WINNER — A Rosebud man was arrested for driving under the influence after testing positive for methamphetamine use.
A Winner police officer conducted a traffic stop in the Winner McDonald's parking lot on Jan. 12, during which the vehicle's driver, 22-year-old Esdon Haukaas appeared to be impaired, but a preliminary breath test showed a 0.0 percent blood alcohol content, according to court documents.
The officer requested another officer, who is a drug recognition expert, to assist, and he determined Haukaas was impaired by using field sobriety tests. A urinalysis later showed Haukaas was under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamines.
During a search of Haukaas' vehicle, officers found 30 unmarked white pills and Haukaas possessed a syringe.
Haukaas was charged with unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance, a Class 5 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
He was also charged with first-offense driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a driver's license and failure to maintain financial responsibility, all misdemeanors.
