Woman causes two-vehicle crash in Mitchell after losing consciousness
A person who lost consciousness while driving caused a two-vehicle crash Tuesday in Mitchell.
At approximately 1 p.m., 52-year-old Pamela Wittstruck, driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, lost consciousness as she turned west into the I-90 Travel Center, according to authorities. The Traverse struck a 2015 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, driven by 32-year-old Wade Horstman, of Parkston, heading south on South Burr Street. The Traverse crashed into the bed of the pickup truck, causing transmission fluid to leak, according to Mitchell Police Officer Paul Wilson.
Wittstruck was unconsciousness when responding agencies arrived and was transported to a Mitchell hospital. Horstman reported minor shoulder soreness but was not in need of medical assistance. Wittstruck was cited for failing to yield, according to Wilson.
The Mitchell Police Division, Mitchell Emergency Medical Services and Mitchell Fire Department were the responding agencies.
