Mitchell man arrested for breaking into vehicles, attempting to steal shotgun
A Mitchell man was arrested for allegedly breaking into two vehicles and attempting to steal a shotgun.
Larry Abdo Jr., 39, was charged with grand theft of more than $1,000 and less than or equal to $2,500 and criminal entry of a motor vehicle. A status hearing is scheduled for Nov. 30.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, Abdo went to a parking lot in the 700 block of North Sanborn in Mitchell. While in the parking lot, Abdo allegedly went into two vehicles looking for items to steal, according to court documents.
Abdo allegedly took a cigarette from a maroon van and an Apple watch from a Ford pickup. Abdo was in the process of taking a shotgun from the Ford pickup when he was confronted by the vehicle's owner. Abdo dropped the shotgun and left the scene in his own vehicle. Abdo went to his residence and allegedly put the watch in his garbage, court documents state.
Grand theft of more than $1,000 and less than or equal to $2,500 is a Class 6 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to two years in prison and a $4,000 fine. Criminal entry of a motor vehicle is a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable upon conviction by up to one year in prison and a $2,000 fine.
