Ruth Norma Gerlach

Ruth Norma Gerlach was born into the blended family of Jay and Lucille Miller on February 19, 1925 in Watertown, South Dakota. She had eighteen siblings. Harvey N. Gerlach and Ruth were married in 1943 in Mitchell, South Dakota. They farmed during their early-married years and had two sons, Loren and David. In 1953 they left the farm and moved to Michigan where their daughter, Jane, was born. Their last move was in 1962 to Lynnwood Washington. Ruth loved her family, especially her grandchildren, gardening and traveling. Starting with the barn dances of her youth, “Gotta Dance!” was her motto which continued throughout her life. Always active in the church wherever she lived, she continued her ministry in Washington at St Matthew and Edmonds Lutheran Churches. Her real passions were choir and hospitality. After retiring from Stevens Hospital, Ruth took on part-time jobs helping others who were unable to do their housekeeping. She was a volunteer at Lynnwood Senior Center as well as Clothes for Kids, receiving county recognition for her service. Harvey and Ruth were married 50 years before his passing in 1993. Ruth is survived by her full-blooded siblings Lucille Schutt and Ada Miller; four sister-in-laws Gladys Bassett, Ruth Moller, Marlys Pemrick and Doris Gerlach; two brother-in-laws Gerald Gerlach and Vernon Cook; her children Loren (Suzann), David (Laurie) and Jane; and her grandchildren Evan, Brenna, Kelsey and Garrett (Shelly). We are thankful for the love we share. Mother Ruth left to help prepare a place for us on August 5, 2013. A memorial service will be held 8-17-2013 1:00 p.m. at Edmonds Lutheran Church 23525 84th Ave W, Edmonds Washington.
