Flood warning in effect for Springfield area
SPRINGFIELD — Minor flooding along the Missouri River has brought about a flood warning, as parts of the river in Charles Mix and Bon Homme counties are observing rising water.
The flood warning is for the river from the Greenwood area to Springfield. At 7 a.m. Tuesday, the river was 11.36 feet deep in Springfield. Flood stage is 10 feet there, while at 12 feet, some camping areas in the Springfield Recreational Area start to flood. The river recently crested there at 11.5 feet on Aug. 20.
At Greenwood, which is at the southern end of Charles Mix County and located 16 miles southwest of Wagner, the river was just above flood stage Tuesday at 30.36 feet (flood stage is 30 feet). The river recently crested Monday at 30.4 feet. The flood warning also covers gauge sites at Verdel and Niobrara, Nebraska, located between Greenwood and Springfield.
