Sioux Falls, Iowa team for river cleanup project

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The city of Sioux Falls and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are working together to gather volunteers to cleanup a portion of the Big Sioux River.

KELO-TV reports officials are seeking volunteers for the 12th annual A Watershed Awareness River Expedition project that will run from July 12 through the 19.

The project will give volunteers the opportunity to learn about the river and help clean a 91-mile stretch of the river that goes from Sioux Falls to Westfield, Iowa.

The station reports people can participate by paddling the river or by working on land-based recycling initiatives.

Interested volunteers must register by June 20.
