Fire destroys storage shed near Parkston

PARKSTON -- The Parkston Fire Department responded to a fire Monday afternoon at a storage shed on a farmstead about 7 miles northeast of Parkston.

Parkston Fire Chief Todd Lucas said the fire happened shortly after 1 p.m. and the shed was filled with smoke when firefighters arrived. No one was inside the shed at the time of the fire, Lucas said, but a semi truck inside was destroyed, and other equipment was damaged.

The shed itself sustained significant structural damage, but was still standing as of Monday afternoon, Lucas said. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, Lucas added.

It took firefighters from Parkston and New Elm Springs Colony nearly three hours to extinguish the blaze, Lucas said.
