Man tries to exchange drugs for drugs

A Mitchell man is accused of attempting to distribute a controlled substance.

Dylan Romero, 21, was arrested for the attempt in April. The charge carries a maximum penalty upon conviction of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Romero contacted a confidential informant -- who secretly works for law enforcement -- and asked to exchange drugs for a prescription fentanyl patch, according to court documents. Romero and the confidential informant arranged to meet at a local parking lot to make the exchange for 11 Carisoprodol tablets and two gift cards for the fentanyl patch. This exchange was set up by law enforcement.

As Romero approached the confidential informant's vehicle, law enforcement arrested him and found nine Carisoprodol tablets in a prescription bottle. He admitted in a later interview he was going to exchange the pills and gift cards for the Carisoprodol.
