Multiple agencies report Presho fire chief killed battling fire

SDSU agronomy short course set Feb. 24-28

BROOKINGS — SDSU Extension faculty and staff will offer a five-day agronomy short course at the SDSU Extension Regional Center in Sioux Falls from Feb. 24 to Feb. 28.

Morning sessions will include lectures, and afternoon sessions will consist of labs or interactive meetings with faculty and Extension staff.

Short course topics:

• Dynamics of Environmental Stressors on Yield Components;

• Forage Utilization and Forage Quality;

• The Business of Crops: Risk and Reward;

• Agricultural Weed Identification, Control Basics, and Modern Weed Control Issues in South Dakota;

• Common Diseases of Field Crops and Their Management;

• Sprayer Calibration and Pesticide Measurement;

• Sustainable Management of Arthropod Pests of Field Crops;

• Identifying Soil Health Parameters;

• Water Management for Crop Production;

• Weather and Climate Resources for Ag Decision-Making;

Participants can register for entire short course or morning sessions only. Cost of the short course includes breakfast and lunch. Those who register by Feb. 15 will pay $425; any registration after Feb. 15 will be $450. Registration fee for the 8 a.m. to noon lectures only are $325 before Feb. 15, and after Feb. 15 will be $350.
