Brandon voters soundly reject $12.5M park upgrade

BRANDON (AP) — Residents of the southeastern South Dakota city of Brandon have rejected plans for a $12.5 million park project.

Unofficial results show that nearly 94 percent of the 2,074 people who voted Tuesday opposed the Aspen Park project.

The proposal involved updating the town's pool, upgrading a playground, paving parking areas, adding a new entrance, and adding softball and baseball fields. The owner of a home valued at $100,000 would have seen property taxes rise about $300 annually.
