Legislative candidate withdraws from House race after arrest

CANOVA (AP) — A Democratic candidate seeking a seat in the state Legislature says he's withdrawing from the race.

David Skoglund tells KELOLAND News that he will not continue to run for public office.

The State Democratic Party has released a statement saying Skoglund was arrested in a prostitution sting last week in Moorhead, Minnesota.

The statement says, "the South Dakota Democratic Party did not know of Mr. Skoglund's illegal activity, and we unequivocally condemn his deplorable actions."

When asked about the arrest, Skoglund told KELO, "no comment."

Skoglund is a Democrat and was running for the state House of Representatives in District 8.

Other District 8 candidates include Democrat Patrick Heinemann and Republicans Matthew Wollman and incumbent Rep. Leslie Heinemann.

Skoglund could not be reached for comment by the Associated Press.
