SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Former Gov. Mike Rounds took in more than $516,000 in campaign contributions during the final three months of 2013 in his bid for one of the state's U.S. Senate seats.

Rounds' Federal Election Commission filing shows that the campaign had just over $1.16 million on hand as of Dec. 31.

The Senate seat is being vacated by Democrat Tim Johnson, who is not seeking re-election this year after serving three terms.

The candidates are filing their year-end FEC reports for Friday's deadline.

State Rep. Stace Nelson raised just over $31,040 during the quarter. He's one of Rounds' four Republican primary opponents.

The FEC report from former U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler showed just one $2,600 contribution from a retired Washington physician. He entered the race Dec. 26 as an independent.
