Toronto named 2014 Intelligent Community of the Year

NEW YORK CITY -- A Canada city was recognized for its intelligence last week.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was named the 2014 Intelligent Community of the Year on Thursday at the Intelligent Community Forum's annual awards in New York City, according to a press release.

In October, Mitchell was named one of the world's 21 Smart21 Communities by the ICF for the second year in a row, but the city was not among the seven finalists announced in January.

The Intelligent Community Forum, a nonprofit policy research organization, said this was the third year Toronto reached the finals and the Top7 Intelligent Communities list (previously in 2005, and 2013). Toronto succeeds Taichung City, Taiwan, the 2013 recipient. ICF said Toronto is the first Canadian city to capture the ICF's global award since 2007, when another Ontario community, Waterloo, was named.
