LAKE ANDES — A driver crashed into a fence after falling asleep at the wheel near tribal land in Lake Andes on Thursday.

At approximately 12 p.m. on Nov. 9, 34-year-old Kayla Decora, of Sioux Falls, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire eastbound a quarter mile east of Lake Andes on S.D. Highway 50. Decora allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and entered a ditch near mile marker 340, according to local law enforcement.

Yankton Sioux Tribal Police Officer Willard Bruguier said Decora was transported to the hospital by ambulance and the extent of her injuries is unknown.

Decora drove in the ditch for approximately 100 yards before hitting three fence poles, according to Bruguier.

No charges are pending against Decora. The Yankton Sioux Tribal Police and Charles Mix County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash.
