Corn Palace court could be named in honor of Gary Munsen
After decades as a varsity basketball coach for Mitchell High School, Gary Munsen’s name could soon grace the hardwood he paced for years.
On Monday, the Mitchell City Council will consider allowing the Mike Miller Foundation to purchase permanent stickers on the Corn Palace basketball court deeming the floor “Gary Munsen Court.”
Munsen died in 2016 at the age of 72. His coaching career ended when he retired following the 2012 season with 12 state titles combined in girls and boys basketball and 902 wins.
If approved, the stickers would be purchased by the foundation of the student-athlete with whom Munsen is often associated. Mike Miller was part of multiple Mitchell High School state basketball championships teams and went on to play in the NBA.
