Chamberlain man arrested for allegedly choking his wife

CHAMBERLAIN — A Chamberlain man was arrested for allegedly choking his wife during a dispute.

According to court documents, police in Chamberlain were called to the residence of 39-year-old Matthew Shroyer on Aug. 14 regarding a domestic dispute. According to police, Michelle Shroyer had visible red finger marks on the left side of her neck, a scratch on the bridge of her nose, and red marks under the right side of her jaw.

Michelle, Matthew's wife, told law enforcement that Matthew had choked her on Aug. 13 and she did lose consciousness. According to court documents, Matthew denied anything had happened when he was questioned by law enforcement.

Matthew was arrested for domestic aggravated assault, a Class 3 felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 19 at the Brule County Courthouse.
