Police seeking suspects in Mitchell vehicle thefts

Police are seeking suspects in thefts from four vehicles in eastern Mitchell early Friday morning.

Sometime after 3 a.m. Friday, one or more people entered four vehicles in the 1200 block of East First Avenue and the 1400 and 1500 blocks of East Second Avenue and stole various items, authorities said.

According to Mitchell Patrol Sgt. Ryan Erickson, the vehicles, which included a 2014 Ford Fusion, a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2016 Dodge Journey, were all unlocked.

“People need to lock their vehicles up and take their keys out of the car, and if you see something suspicious when you’re walking around your neighborhood in the middle of the night, don’t be afraid to call us,” Erickson said.

Items stolen included sunglasses and spare change. Erickson said “nothing of great value” was taken, and the vehicles were not damaged.

The Mitchell Police Division continues to investigate but so far have no leads.
