Main Street from Fifth to Seventh avenues to close for construction
Main Street in Mitchell from Fifth Avenue to Seventh Avenue will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, May 22, for two to four weeks.
The portion of Main Street will be closed as the city kicks off its Sixth Avenue plaza project, which will add landscaping and new walkways on what's currently an asphalt surface south of the Corn Palace between Lawler and Main streets.
The parking areas around the Corn Palace will be open as usual and may be accessed from Fifth and Seventh avenues.
Pedestrian traffic may access the Chamber Plaza from the alley using the sidewalks along Seventh Avenue. Pedestrian traffic may access the Corn Palace's Main Street entrance using the Sixth Avenue sidewalks on the south side of the Corn Palace to Main Street.
In a separate project, the road between the 3200 and 3300 blocks of North Ohlman Street will be closed for storm sewer construction starting Tuesday.
