They're not the Elite team for nothing.

Elite, one of Xtreme Cheer & Dance's competition teams, won third place out of 10 teams in the Senior Level II, Small Gym category of the Universal Cheerleaders Association International All Star Championship Saturday and Sunday in Orlando, Fla.

Traci Loecker, owner of Xtreme Cheer & Dance in Mitchell and one of the team's coaches, said in order to make it to Florida, teams must earn their way through a regional competition. Elite qualified at the Mid America Extreme Challenge in Council Bluffs, Neb., in November.

Loecker said this is the third time for an Xtreme Cheer team to compete at the championship, and this was the highest placing one of her teams has received. With seven girls in the 12-18 age range, Loecker said Elite was the smallest team in its division, but credited the girls' experience and teamwork for their high placing.

"They just really work together as a team," she said, also giving credit to the team's other coach, Taylor Davis-Bohr.

Loecker added that she is taking registration for Xtreme Cheer & Dance's training camp, which will start April 1 and run every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month. Cost is $45; times depend on the age group. To register, call Loecker at (605) 770-8803 or visit
