Update: Police identify dead man as Timothy Sattler

Authorities Friday morning identified the dead body found Thursday near the Corn Palace in Mitchell as Timothy Sattler.

Sattler, 58, of Mitchell, died from a medical event, Mitchell Police Division Detective Lt. Don Everson said Friday.

“He appeared to have a heart condition and the incident was related to that,” Everson said. “We know that he did not have a heart attack.”

Secondary injuries were caused to Sattler’s body when he fell to the ground, according to police. Everson said the man’s fall caused lacerations and injuries to his face and neck area.

Sattler has lived in Mitchell for about five years. Everson said although Sattler was in the parking lot for “hours,” he was not there for the duration of the night, ruling out the death was because of cold temperature. Everson said Sattler was dressed in a winter coat.

A passerby called dispatchers around 8 a.m. Thursday to report a man was lying face-down in a parking lot directly east of the Corn Palace in the 600 block of North Lawler Street. Authorities later set up a crime scene perimeter at the corner of North Lawler Street and East Sixth Avenue.
