Mitchell man pleads no contest to choking teen
A Mitchell man accused of choking a 17-year-old girl Aug. 12 pleaded no contest Tuesday to aggravated assault.
George Jerry Bamsey, 27, faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine for the felony assault charge. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed two lesser charges and agreed to recommend Bamsey receive a suspended five-year prison sentence.
Bamsey's victim suffered a large scrape on her left elbow, a 5-inch abrasion on her right arm, cuts on her right leg and marks on her neck and around her eye as a result of the attack, court documents say.
A presentence investigation was ordered. Sentencing is scheduled for next month.
