In the same poll, 34.9 percent assign most responsibility to Democrats, 24.3 percent say the responsibility is shared and 2.5 percent are unsure.

The survey, conducted from Oct. 2 to Oct. 6, also asked which elected body is the most to blame for the shutdown, with 34.7 percent of respondents saying President Obama, 31 percent saying the House of Representatives, 19.1 percent saying the Senate and 15.3 percent unsure.

The central focus of the government shutdown is the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” which 54.1 percent of people who took the survey oppose, 36.1 percent support and 9.7 percent are unsure.

When asked to evaluate President Obama’s job performance, 41 percent of respondents approved and 59 percent disapproved. About 800 people were polled on each of the four questions.
