At least two people were detained Monday after police discovered a possible meth lab in a Mitchell apartment building.

Detective Lt. Don Everson, of the Mitchell Police Division, said officers responded to a separate criminal matter at 814 N. Winsor around 3 p.m. When officers were at the matter, they "stumbled upon a possible meth lab" at the building, according to Everson. The apartment building is about one block from Mitchell High School.

The suspects were taken from the apartment and detained. They were not arrested, so law enforcement is not releasing their names.

Law enforcement then evacuated the entire apartment complex, Everson added.

Law enforcement requested a search warrant and a certified lab team made up of officers around from the state to investigate the scene. They worked into the evening Monday and planned to release more information today.

The Mitchell Fire Division also responded. The police division is asking the public to stay away from the 800 block of N. Winsor until the matter is resolved.

No other details were immediately available.
