Two suspects sought in campground burglary
A break-in that occurred early Wednesday morning at a campground near Interstate 90 in Mitchell may have been one in a string of campground burglaries.
Ron DeGeest, manager of the R&R Campground and Super 8 Motel in Mitchell, said two people broke into the campground’s office, located at 1700 S. Burr St., between 2:39 and 3:01 and stole an estimated $100 in cash. The burglars gained access to the building by prying off a window, DeGeest said.
DeGeest reported the burglary to police at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, after another staff member noticed the missing cash.
“There were some other things that I think they probably could have taken,” he said. “So, obviously they’re just looking for cash.”
Photos of the vehicle involved in the burglary, taken from the security camera footage, were posted on the Mitchell Police Division’s Facebook page later Wednesday. Police suspect the vehicle involved in the burglary in Mitchell may have been involved in burglaries reported Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at campgrounds in Salem, Kimball, and Chamberlain.
