Mitchell man arrested for possession of meth

A Mitchell man is charged with possession of a controlled substance after police allegedly found methamphetamine residue in his home.

Michael Wilson, 27, was arrested Aug. 25 after police searched his home and reported finding several baggies and a broken glass pipe in his living room. The baggies had residue that allegedly tested positive for meth. The pipe allegedly contained burnt residue, but was not tested.

Police received a complaint on Aug. 23 from a witness that Wilson possessed a firearm. Wilson is a convicted felon, which prevents him from owning or possessing a firearm, plus he has an active protection order against him -- possessing a firearm is a violation of that order, according to court documents.

Wilson allegedly admitted to possessing the firearm when interviewed by police on Aug. 24. He was charged with a protection order violation for possessing the firearm, court documents say.

A tip from Mitchell Area Crime Stoppers led to Wilson's arrest.

The possession of a controlled substance charge carries a maximum of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.
