Jury finds St. Charles man not guilty of rape
BURKE—A man accused of raping a woman in her home in October 2017 was found not guilty Thursday by a jury in Gregory County.
Timothy Peppel, 58, of St. Charles, was arrested when a woman spoke with someone from the
Gregory County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 13 and said that Peppel raped her the previous day.
She was escorted to the Burke hospital to have a rape kit done, then taken home.
After being questioned by the sheriff, Peppel was taken to the Winner Jail. He was released on Oct. 15 when 10 percent of his $250,000 bond was posted.
Peppel pleaded not guilty to second-degree rape, a Class 1 felony punishable by up to 50 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, on Nov. 14. His jury trial began on Monday and concluded Thursday.
