Dell Rapids man accused of stealing from 5 Davison Co. businesses
A Davison County grand jury has indicted a Dell Rapids man for stealing or damaging more than $5,300 worth of money and equipment from five Davison County businesses.
The recently filed indictment alleges between Sept. 8 and Nov. 27 Rodney Holzer broke into and/or stole from three Mitchell businesses and two Ethan businesses.
According to court documents, on Sept. 8, 57-year-old Holzer entered Davison Feed Supply and took more than $2,500 but less than $5,000 in cash, and intentionally damaged a door and cash register. The damage was valued at more than $400 but less than $1,000.
On Nov. 2, Holzer allegedly entered Plaza Cleaners & Laundromat and stole more than $400, but less than $1,000 in cash, and damaged a wall also valued at $400 and less than $1,000.
On Nov. 17, he allegedly stole more than $1,000 from Farmers Alliance and damaged a door and cash register valued at more than $400, but less than $1,000.
Finally, on either Nov. 27 or Nov. 28, Holzer is accused breaking into Agland Co-op and Chubby's Bar, both in Ethan.
Holzer is charged with five counts of third-degree burglary, a Class 5 felony; grand theft more than $1,000 and less than $2,500, a Class 6 felony; grand theft more than $2,500 and less than $5,000.01, a Class 5 felony; three counts of intentional property damage, Class 1 misdemeanor; and first-degree petty theft, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
Class 5 felonies are punishable upon conviction by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, while Class 6 felonies are punishable by up to two years in prison and a $4,000 fine. Class 1 misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
