Fort Thompson man gets prison for firearm offense

A Fort Thompson man convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm was sentenced last week by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.

Samuel Redwater, 22, was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment, two years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Redwater was indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 16 and pleaded guilty March 28. The charge stems from an incident in which Redwater, on or about Dec. 19 having been previously convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, knowingly possessed a firearm which had been previously shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce.

Redwater was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
