Kansas man injured in motorcycle crash near Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, S.D. -- A Kansas man suffered serious injuries Saturday in a motorcycle crash about 6 miles east of Springfield.
The crash occurred at about 1 p.m. Saturday on Apple Tree Road near 419th Street and along the banks of the Missouri River.
Billy Smith, 42, of Pfeifer, Kansas, suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries when his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle went off the roadway, hit a patch of gravel and the driver lost control. The motorcycle tipped over and rolled end over end before Smith was thrown from the motorcycle. Smith was part of a group of motorcycles traveling west on Apple Tree Road toward Springfield at the time of the crash.
He was taken by ambulance to Yankton. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and charges are pending.
