One person injured in two-vehicle crash near Platte

PLATTE — One person sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Sunday near Platte.

At approximately 10:05 a.m., Robert Westendorf, a 35-year-old man from Platte, was driving a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica westbound on Seventh Street. As the Chrysler Pacifica attempted to turn south onto Wyoming Avenue, Westendorf became distracted and collided head on with a 2014 Toyota Tundra, driven by a 53-year-old woman, driving northbound, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Westendorf was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to a Platte hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota Tundra was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured. Charges are pending against Westendorf. The woman's name is not being released at this time, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated. Other responding agencies include Charles Mix County Sheriff's Office, Platte Police Department and Platte Ambulance Service.
