A Mitchell woman was arrested earlier this month for burglary and obstructing police after she was allegedly caught stealing from a residence.
On Dec. 19, Mitchell police received a report of a possible burglary in the 200 block of East Third Avenue. Upon arrival, an officer saw two people walking along the road holding several items. The officer identified himself and both individuals dropped the items they were holding and began to run.
The officer pursued one of the individuals, later identified as 45-year-old Jessica Carroll, and pushed her to the ground before arresting her.
The reporting party said he saw Carroll and another person in the house using cell phone lights to search the residence, and saw them both leave the residence.
Carroll was charged with third-degree burglary, a Class 5 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
She was also charged with obstructing police, a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
