Avera to host community disaster drill Tuesday
The community can expect to see multiple emergency response vehicles throughout Mitchell on Tuesday.
A community-wide disaster drill will be conducted at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Mitchell, causing multiple emergency response vehicles to be at the city's health care facilities.
Emergency responders and health care personnel will be collaborating with actors to create scenarios for the drill. In a press release from Avera Health, officials want the public to know measures will be taken to make it clear this is a drill and not an actual emergency.
The drill is to help responders and health care personnel be "better prepared to deal with an actual emergency," the press release stated.
Participating agencies include Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Avera Brady Health and Rehab, Avera Medical Group clinics, Dakota Women's Clinic, Firesteel Healthcare Center, Graham Ear, Nose & Throat, P.C., Mitchell Clinic, the Sanford Health Clinic, Avera@Home and Dakota Counseling. The Mitchell Police Division, Mitchell Fire Department, Mitchell EMS and local emergency management officials will also be taking part.
