Trial date set for St. Francis kidnapping suspects
ST. FRANCIS — A March 7 trial has been set for a St. Francis man and a Rosebud woman indicted for allegedly kidnapping a woman near St. Francis.
Benjamin Young, 35, and Stefanie Long, 27, were indicted in December and have pled not guilty to the kidnapping charges. Young and Long are suspected to have kidnapped a woman on or about Sept. 10, 2016 for the purpose of assaulting the alleged victim.
If convicted, the pair face maximum penalties of life in custody and a $250,000 fine, as well as five years of supervised release and a $100 fee paid to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Long has been released on bond, and Young was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending a trial.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case, and the investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
