Dakotas have lowest mortgage delinquency rates in nation

The Dakotas have the lowest rate of noncurrent home mortgages in the country, according to a new report.

Black Knight Financial Services' July report notes North Dakota at a 2.56 percent noncurrent rate and South Dakota at 3.6 percent, the two lowest rates in the nation. Fellow Northern Plains state Montana was fourth lowest with a 3.94 percent delinquency rate.

The national delinquency average is 5.64 percent. Black Knight considers delinquency as a mortgage payment more than 30 days overdue but the home is not in foreclosure.

According to the report, Mississippi has the highest delinquency rate at 14.2 percent, followed by New Jersey at 12.44 percent.
