A 7-year-old Mitchell girl received minor injuries Monday afternoon in a bicycle-SUV accident on Main Street in Mitchell.

Shyanne Songer was riding her bike around 5:30 p.m. with her father, Ross Hare, 22, also of Mitchell. The two were traveling northbound at the intersection of Third Avenue and Main Street, said Officer Kelly Loudenburg, of the Mitchell Police Division.

Main Street had the green light as Hare, who was ahead of his daughter, proceeded through the intersection. However, the light started to turn yellow before Songer crossed, and she did not stop for the red light, Loudenburg said.

Mary Wingfield, 70, of Mitchell, was westbound on Third Avenue in a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe. She put on her brakes, Loudenburg said, and was going at a slow rate of speed, but could not avoid the collision.

Loudenburg said Songer was transported by ambulance to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital with minor injuries, including a bloody nose and small abrasions on both knees. She also was complaining of a sore right wrist, Loudenburg said. No citations were issued.
