HURON (AP) -- Officials say 4-H exhibits were up 10 percent from last year at this year's State Fair in Huron.
Peter Nielson, South Dakota State University Extension 4-H Youth Development director, says there were 17,700 pre-entered exhibits and 10,500 display exhibits checked in at the State Fair.
Nielson tells the Plainsman of Huron (http://bit.ly/1dBhT0u ) that 4-H membership in South Dakota is up 6 percent from last year. More than 9,000 young people now take part in 4-H programs.
Nielson says participation has increased in all project area, but most notably in shooting sports, photography and meat goats.
