Storms force some from homes in Rosebud

ROSEBUD (AP) -- Severe thunderstorms brought hail, strong winds and heavy rain to parts of South Dakota, forcing some residents from their homes.

The National Weather Service says flash flooding late Tuesday inundated roads in the Rosebud Indian Reservation area. KELO-TV reports that about 300 people were displaced from their homes, though floodwaters were receding early Wednesday.

Tribal officials were still assessing damage.

The weather service says the storms packed winds gusting to 70 mph, and KELO-TV says some homes were damaged. There also was a brief tornado touchdown in Haakon County, with no immediate reports of damage, along with large hail throughout the region.
