Davison County to auction land for lease

The Davison County commissioners will hold a public auction to lease land it owns in Badger Township when it meets in regular session at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the courthouse, 200 E. Fourth Ave., in Mitchell.

The land, which leased for $10,000 to Rick Podzimek last year, lies in the northeast quarter of Badger Township.

This 22-month lease will end on Feb. 28, 2015. Since the commissioners were late in putting the land up for auction, this year they decided to extend the leasing period. The rationale is that a longer lease will allow the lessor more time to make farming or ranching preparations.

The time for the lease auction is set for 10 a.m. April 2 during the regularly scheduled meeting.

In other business, Auditor Susan Kiepke said she will ask the commissioners for permission to handle absentee balloting for the June 4 Mitchell school board election.

The agenda includes:

--9 a.m. Call to order, Pledge of Allegiance, approval of meeting minutes, citizen input.

--9:30 a.m. Highway Superintendent Rusty Weinberg, with recommendations for awarding bid contracts for highway materials and projects. Also: a request to shift highway department employees to four 10-hour days for spring and summer months.

--9:45 a.m. Closed executive session on personnel.

--10 a.m. Land lease auction.

--10:15 a.m. Auditor Susan Kiepke, regarding absentee ballots for the upcoming June 4 school board election.

--10:30 a.m. Board of Equalization orientation by DOE Director Kathy Goetsch.

--11:15 a.m. Welfare Director Dawn Grissom, with quarterly, and Spring Workshop, reports.

--11:30 a.m. Discussion on updating the county mainframe computer and matching grants available for that purpose.

--11:40 a.m. Jail Administrator Don Radel and Sheriff Steve Brink with training and travel requests and a request for a new hire.

--11:50 a.m. miscellaneous items; approval of bills, timesheets and tax abatements.

The Davison County Planning and Zoning Commission will hold its monthly meeting at 1:15 p.m. in the Commissioner's Room.
