Wind Cave park reopens after 4-day fire shutdown

RAPID CITY (AP) -- Wind Cave National Park is reopening after a fire burned thousands of acres near Pringle.

Park representative Tom Farrell says the park will reopen Tuesday. It has been closed since Thursday afternoon due to the nearby Myrtle Fire, which has burned more than 16 square miles of land.

The media reports that the park's power was shut off Friday morning and restored Saturday night. Park residents had been evacuated in the middle of the night Thursday. They were allowed to return Sunday.

Maintenance crews worked Sunday and Monday to ready the park for visitors and employees for the week, which is traditionally one of the park's busiest of the year.
