Huron looks to lower minimum firefighter age
HURON (AP) -- City officials in Huron are considering lowering the minimum age of volunteer firefighters to boost the department's ranks.
The city commission gave approval to the first reading of an ordinance that lowers the minimum age from 21 to 18.
Commissioner Kerwin Haeder says Huron has a shortage of volunteer firefighters, and lowering the age would help with recruiting efforts.
Haeder says the city is planning a recruitment advertising campaign to begin next year.
