Alexandria gets grant to build library

ALEXANDRIA -- Residents of Alexandria will benefit from a grant from the federal government, which will be used to construct a new community library on the campus of the Hanson School District.

The Governor's Office of Economic Development awarded Alexandria the $309,000 community development block grant on Friday, according to information provided to The Daily Republic by state Rep. Stace Nelson, R-Fulton.

The money for the grant comes from the Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of a program that provides funds for states to address the unique needs of small communities.

The grant will be provided through reimbursement, meaning Alexandria will receive its funding as work on the library is completed.
