Mitchell United Way nears $425,000 goal

The Mitchell United Way is close to meeting its $425,000 goal.

"I am cautiously optimistic at this point," said fundraising chairman Ryan Huber.

Executive Director Dave Stevens said if some of the larger corporate donors give what they did last year, the goal will be met.

"Even though we lowered our goal this year compared to last year, if we exceed our goal all of that money will go to the agencies," Huber said.

The Mitchell United Way helps fund 30 agencies in the Mitchell area who serve people ranging from youth to those with developmental disabilities and the elderly.

Agencies have been notified how much they can expect to get, based on the goal.

"It was kind of a tough year economically, and we had to reduce some funding for some agencies when we set our goal. So we would love to come in over and surprise them with extra money," Huber said.

The Mitchell United Way had a goal of $450,000 last year and raised $450,097.

The soft deadline for this year's donations is Friday.

"We will certainly take any donations after that time, but we need to tally up what we have for this year, so that is our deadline to meet the goal," Huber said.

The United Way will announce this year's fundraising total during its annual banquet at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 18 at the Ramada. Anyone interested in donating to the Mitchell United Way can stop by the office at 304 N. Lawler in Mitchell.

"We want people to know that it is not just the Mitchell United Way, but we serve the whole area, so anyone in the surrounding towns that wants to support us, we would greatly appreciate it," Huber said.
